The center has several building improvement needs, including flooring for multiple rooms (i.e., restrooms, kitchen, administrative offices and historical reflection and conference rooms), and a need for baseboards, sinks and vanities. Central Falls Phillips Street Community Garden aims to create a beautiful, Zen-like garden with equipment for residents. The project would include removal of debris and junk to create a new space with garden furniture, chess tables, concrete seats, garden beds, new plants and more. Cazenovia Recovery is a residential substance use center which wants to update communal living spaces in both the upstairs and downstairs apartments including kitchens, bathrooms, living and dining rooms.

Lowe’s Knows - Insulation
Backfield in Motion focuses on education through mastery of literacy and numeracy skills for at-risk youth that leads to a high school diploma, a foundation for higher education, and the on-job skills needed to enter the world of work. The organization uses athletics as an incentive for academic improvement and is in dire need of a renovation to the building they've worked out of since the 1950s. Project plans include painting the gym, classrooms, bathrooms and the gym floor, as well as replacing worn stage curtains. The Agua Fria Union School District hopes to bolster its skilled trades/construction program with lab upgrades to attract more students to the program and give enrolled students a safe working environment during their two-year instruction. Improvements would include a tool cage, material storage cage and outdoor workspace, to include an extended cover and a flat surface for proper drainage.

The Covenant House works to provide compassionate, sustainable services and shelter to homeless or at-risk youth in Alaska. Their project also includes replacing mattresses, repairing and repainting two stairwells, door frames, closets and bathrooms. All the carpet and old flooring in the basement lounge will be replaced with durable hardwood floors. The Colorado Village Cooperative wants to build a community garden to provide a safe place to learn, grow, eat and connect with neighbors.
Lowe’s Hometowns – 2022
Carey Services, Inc. focuses on turning abilities into opportunities and has a vision of a world where all people are empowered and equally valued in the community. This project would convert an uneven, grass area into an interactive outdoor recreation space, promoting physical, mental and social well-being for individuals with disabilities, their families and the staff who cares for them. The project would include a walking path, sports court and picnic area, including accessible picnic tables and raised community garden beds. Booth Elementary School seeks to support students' STEM education by completely renovating a classroom currently adjoining a computer lab. The school plans to build cubicles, wood-tool table stations and a tool-board wall or additional storage to support students as they engineer replica houses, models and science projects. Since 1957, ARCA has provided opportunities for individuals with intellectual, developmental and cognitive disabilities to enjoy great lives.

For many, this season brings cold weather which can also mean higher heating costs.

They hope to create an additional space for community gatherings and neighborhood meetings as well as a place to host events that would attract non-community members into the neighborhood to learn about the resources and assets of this community. The Arizona Knowledge Empowerment Institute has a mission to support, educate, inform and advocate for both families and individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities in having a desired quality of life. Their project entails several infrastructure needs including a storage space for tools, an area to harvest water, drip lines to water plants, raised beds and accessible beds. Grant funds would also help hire support to build a shade structure already purchased. Lowe’s is continuing its longtime commitment to communities by completing signature improvement projects in 100 hometowns across the country.
This new garden will provide garden space to those residents who are seeking to use a community garden but have not been able to do so yet. Most residents do not have access to personal outdoor space or backyards, so this project will provide new access for residents to plant their own plants and vegetables. Aunti Na's Village is a community development organization that purchases abandoned homes and vacant lots, then transforms them into vibrant community centers, complete with outreach programs. The organizations seeks to gut and renovate its Nutrition House, which supports the organizations food-related programming. The Boys & Girls Club of Tampa Bay needs critical flooring repairs to ensure safety in its main programming spaces including a computer and learning lab. The current damaged and missing flooring will be replaced with new LVT and baseboards.
Lowe’s Hometowns – 2022
Covey serves individuals with disabilities and their families by offering respite care, skill-building classes, community engagement programs and connection. One study has shown that nearly 90 percent of homes are under-insulated, which means your hard-earned money is leaking out of your house. According to the Energy Star program, homeowners can save an average of 15 percent on heating and cooling costs by adding insulation in attics, floors over crawl spaces and accessible basement rim joists. The Animal Charity of Ohio seeks improvements to better serve its furry clientele.
ARCA's project would provide accessible bathrooms, improved and shaded outdoor areas as well as needed kitchen upgrades. ARCA is the only provider in New Mexico offering community based, post acute services for adults with an acquired brain injury. The Black Rock Riverside Alliance is committed to the overall betterment of the Black Rock, Riverside, Grant-Amherst, and West Hertel communities of Buffalo, New York. For this project, they would like to create a performance space that would be local, open and free to the public, offering an underserved community the opportunity to enjoy no-cost entertainment in a beautiful, healthy, outdoor environment.
They would like to add a mural to commemorate the participants, volunteers and donors who help keep the organization functioning and changing lives. The project would also include new ceiling tiles, shelving for donations, resurfacing its parking lot, updating lighting and repainting the exterior building. This project also addresses food insecurity by providing a community garden for Elyria-Swansea neighbors who may not have ready access to healthy produce or the means to grow their own. Gardening-related and healthy living classes also will be provided in the garden. The Cancer Support Community New Jersey at Gilda's Club proposes a community improvement project to address necessary building maintenance - from cleanliness to repairs - for the clubhouse where support groups meet for people impacted by cancer. This will allow the organization to create a thrift store which will provide a steady source of income. The Borough currently has two community gardens, all of which have reached maximum capacity.
